Traditional hypnotherapy focuses on inducing a deep state of trance in the client. It works on the belief that in this state the client is open to the suggestions made by the therapist. These suggestions tend to be focused on the problem, so clients with the same issue tend to be read the same script of suggestions. Trance is taken to be a special state of mind that the client is led into by the therapist. In contrast Cognitive Hypnotherapy focuses on how each person creates their issue. A problem is understood as being the result of the way each particular mind works and the experiences that person has had.

As a Cognitive Hypnotherapist I aim to identify the unique mind-pattern of your problem and choose from a range of techniques to create suggestions that are individual to you, the client. I believe that Trance is something we experience everyday, and forms a key part of the mind-pattern that you are experiencing as a problem. My goal is to change the problem pattern by adapting your perception of it. I believe that clients have all the resources they need, so therapy is an interactive relationship where client and therapist are equal partners in resolving the issue. My role is as a guide, building on your own strengths to give you control when you need it.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy utilises natural trance states to bring about therapeutic change by uncovering the thoughts and memory patterns that have led to a problem and continue to maintain it. I use Cognitive Hypnotherapy techniques to modify these patterns to enable you to take control of your behaviour. It’s an interactive therapy with me, your therapist acting as a guide.

My focus is on you as the client rather than your issue, you are unique and therefore cannot be the same as any other person just because you have the same issue. I aim to treat the person rather than the issue and your treatment programme will be designed specifically for you. I believe that you can find your own solutions with my skilled assistance. Hypnosis makes these solutions acceptable to your unconscious mind, which controls your behaviour, so that the changes made are ongoing and permanent.
